Stu and Jan Fergusson are the epitome of kiwi ingenuity. From their rural South Wairarapa home they have created a business called “Hive Doctor” which could change the way bee hives are managed throughout the world.
With their intimate knowledge of bee-keeping, they have 400 hives spread around coastal Wairarapa, coupled with Jan’s research skills and Stu’s ability as an industrial designer they have created a hive management product that helps protect hives from the Varroa mite and and the Small Hive Beetle. It provides mechanical means to maintain hive health and is therefore much more sustainable than chemical means which have largely been failing.
Having a fast and robust internet service has been a boon to the Fergussons’ fledgling business.
“We originally had dial-up which was too slow and then we used a vodem for a while which worked alright until Vodafone changed their system one day without telling us and the vodem wouldn’t work any more! We were desperate because we were just launching the business so we called WIZ and they sorted us out.”
“We have a heavy emphasis on research, both for product development and for sussing out the market, and we need a good internet service. We simply weren’t able to do all the research and development work that we’re doing now before we had WIZwireless.”
The Fergusson’s also rely on the internet for their accounting because they use Xero, an online service. And like many other rural internet users it is a crucial way to stay in touch with friends and family, do shopping and keep up with what’s going on.
“We chose WIZwireless because we heard they have a fast and reliable service and it’s been great. Thanks WIZ”.
